Irish Vale Ice Wall

As soon as I heard about the giant ice wall in Irish Vale, I knew we had to take a drive out and see it for ourselves. Apparently, the last time something like this was in Irish Vale was over 20 years ago. The ice changes so quickly out there that it’s hard to gauge how long the wall will be there for, so I knew the trip couldn’t wait. When we got up on Sunday morning, I asked Lauren if she wanted to go on a little adventure, and when she said yes I just told her to dress warm. Surprise adventures are fun!

I wasn’t sure what to expect as we were driving toward Irish Vale. I’ve known that area my whole life, and had driven past it hundreds of times. I saw pictures of the ice wall and read about it and what causes this phenomenon. It may be cliche, but this really is one of those things that you can’t really appreciate until you’re standing next to it. Even from the road, it’s hard to appreciate the scale of the massive sheets of ice stacked violently on top of one another. I’d love to set up a motion camera to actually capture something like this being formed.

Rather than write about it more, I’ll encourage you to check out the gallery of Ice Wall photos or watch our Ice Wall adventure video below.
